Jody Bikes: Why are you honking at me?

Recently I was riding my cruiser bike on High St to the Whetstone Rec Center when an SUV came up behind me and honked. When we both arrived at the Rec Center, I asked him why he was honking at me.

Bike-car confrontation. Biking to rec center, I got honked at. When I arrived, he was dropping his kids. I asked about the honk and he told me I should not be in the road.

Simply hand off, smile, & bike away. Or, if all else fails, file a police report for harrassment/road rage & illegal use of horn.

- Jody Dzuranin Funny people don't honk at school buses, cota buses, firetrucks, ambulances, usps mail delivery... they are all vehicles which require a car driver to slow/yield...but a bike is just too difficult to manage.

- J.d. Kimple I've had similair conversations. It usually makes them think when you say "You must not have read the Ohio Revised Code, because legally I have as much right to this roadway as you do." I even had to use that on a cop. Sad sad sad.

- Jody Dzuranin Mark - not all hipsters break traffic laws. But you are right, any cyclists who blows thru a light makes it worse for all bike riders.

- Jody Dzuranin Thanks Rocky for the benefit of the doubt. Until recently that section of High had share the road markings "sharrows", but it was repaved and the markings will be re-applied in the spring. They provide a visual reminder to expect bikes. Rocky it can be unsafe for a rider to hug the berm for many reasons.

- Kate Terrill People are so clueless! Isn't it in the drivers rules that bicycles are allowed a certain number of foot clearance as well as that it's illegal for adults to ride on the sidewalk!

Why are you honking at me?
